Naughty Farmers!

Jesus said, "A person had a vineyard and allowed some farmers to rent from him, so they could work the land and the owner could receive a portion of its crop from them. He sent his servant so the farmers would give him the vineyard's crop. The farmers seized him, beat him, and almost killing him, and the servant returned and told his master. His master said, 'Perhaps he didn't know them.' He sent another servant, and the farmers beat that one as well. Then the master sent his son and said, 'Perhaps they'll show my son some respect.' Because the farmers knew that he was the heir to the vineyard, they grabbed him and killed him. Anyone here with two ears had better listen!"  Gospel of Thomas 65

I had to sit with this passage since my last post over a week or two ago. Who is the vineyard keeper?  Who is the son?  The servants?  The naughty farmers?  Perhaps they are all us.  The vineyard keeper is the Holy Spirit within us.  She is the light inside us and all things..that prompts us to fully realize God.  We too at times act as the servants doing our simple duties, and suffering the blows of life.  And then sometimes we are the farmers..our condemning ego...condemning all things within us and without as well.  The ego protecting itself from the light of truth shining on who we are as sons and daughters of God.  Finally we are the son, the child of the light.  We came from the light, and are called to live for even speak truth to love the ones the world has made outcasts, to speak for those who have no voice.  And in doing...the children are living who they are supposed to be, even in the face of death.  How easy for me to say?  Would I live it when the rubber meets the road?
