Did You See Which Way He Went?

Jesus said, "Be passersby." Gospel of Thomas 42

This is one of my favorite sayings in the Gospel of Thomas.  In the orthodox gospels, you have Peter wanting to build tabernacles when Jesus speaks to Moses and Elijah on the mountaintop.  But here Jesus says to be a passerby.  Don't dig your heels in.  Don't cling to tightly to your beliefs, your possessions, your life.  It is all about the journey, not a destination.

  1. I actually prefer Mike Grodins interlinear translation (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/9068/sayings.htm), rather than the common interpretation,
Said Jesus this: Come into being as you pass away.
I find it more in keeping with the transient nature of, well nature, reality and this cosmos. Pesonal opinion only of course ;).

  2. I love that! Thanks for sharing this Tomasis!
