Reflections on the Good Friday Service
Entering the Good Friday service, I was struck by my own monkey-mind as it came raging up during the mass. Memories popped up. I was shocked by the emptiness of the church. Everything that could be a distraction-was. I closed my eyes and began a bit of centering prayer. Eventually those distractions passed and I was able to release the raging of the ego. The crucifixion tells us that God is with us in our suffering and the world and its "powers" are powerless. God is present in us-even with our monkey mind. Even during the Good Friday Liturgy.
